|_Br Telegraph.] [from thk own correspondent of the “ PRESS.”]
WELLINGTON, August 5. Nothing is yet settled respecting the boundaries to be proposed for the new electoral districts, but I understand that the following have been suggested by the Government to tho Canterbury members for their consideration and their opinions invited:—Christchurch, north and south, each one member; St. Albans, Stanmoro, Sydenham, and Lyttelton, each one; Cheviot district to extend generally from Clarence river to tho Ashley and Waimakariri ; Ashley district from the sea coast by the Ashley river to Spring Bank, extending in a semi-circular shape north round to the Ashley river again, an A thence by a straight line to the Waimakariri ; Kaiapoi district bounded by the coast on the east, by the Ashley river on the north, by the Ashley district on the west, and the Waimakariri river on the south ; Avon district to extend between the Waimakariri river on the north, Avon river on tho south, by the coast on tho east and by the main line of railway. The Lincoln district lies between the main railway and the Selwyn river, and the Heathcote and Akaroa districts. The Heathcote district lies east of Lincoln road ; tho Akaroa district lies east of Heathcote and Lincoln to tho sea ; Selwyn district lies between tho Selwyn and Eakaia rivers to Hororato on tho west; Ashburton district lies between the Bskaia and Eangitata rivers, extending northwest of the main radway to the Southern Alps; the Hakatere district lies east of the railway, and between the Eakaia and Eangitata rivers ; Geraldine lies between the Eangitata and Opihi rivers eastward to the coast, and westward to about the Waihi Bush ; Leeaton (?) extends from the Eangitata round by tho Southern Alps to Mount Cook, on to Hopkins river ; then by Ohau and Waitaki river, and Hakaferamea and Paroora river to the sea. Gladstone lies between Pareora and the Waitaki river. The town of Timaru has one member. The above gives a rough general idea of the proposals so far as yet sketched out.
