AGRICULTURAL & PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the committee of the above association was held yesterday, at 2 p.m., in its offices, Hereford street. Present—Messrs J, B. Hill (president), in the chair, H. P. Murray-Ay nsley, W. Norman, P, Cunningham, A. W. Money, W. Boag, H. Mcllraith, W. Henderson, T. Bruce, S. Qarforth, MeBeth, J. Ferguson, J. T. Ford, J. T. Matson, W. Gilmour, R. Sutherland, and J. Anderson, jun.
The Chairman suggested an alteration to the entry ticket for exhibits at the future shows of the association. He thought the addition of the words “ subject to the rules and regulations of the association ” to these tickets would prevent disputes arising. The suggestion was unanimously adopted. The secretary of the Chamber of Commerce wrote asking if the association would agree to occupy a portion of the proposed newchamber to be erected in Cashel street.—The Chairman remarked that the questions for consideration were—would they receive as good or better accommodation without paying a higher rent than at present ? and wore they satisfied with their present offices ?—Mr T. Bruce would like to see the new building erected jointly by the Chamber of Commerce and the A. and P. Association.—Mr Henderson thought a large room should be provided that could be used for public meetings, and also be available for use as a Corn Exchange. Ultimately, on the motion of Mr T, Bruce, the president, vice-president, and Messrs MeIlraith and Boag, were chosen to make inquiries as to the terms and accommodation that would be offered them, and also to ascertain the terms the Union Insurance Company would give them in the future. Mr Dominick Browne wrote, offering a prize of £5 for a sample of guano prepared from the Sandhills excreta. It was agreed that Mr Browne’s offer be accepted, the sample to be not lees than scwt.—The nominations of the judges in the various classes at the next show were next submitted, and approved.—Mr J. Haydon wrote, suggesting that the words “ any breed other than Berkshire ” should be inserted in the catalogue in the open class for pigs —Mr S. Manning’s private prize of £5 5s was decided to be slloted to the best collection of woollen goods manufactured in New Zealand.—Mr S. Garforth offered a special prize of £3 3s for the best shorthorn cow, to be shown with two of her progeny.—The annual Horse Parade was fixed for Saturday, September 24th.—Mr Robert Wilkin wrote, suggesting that the time fixed for the entry of stock should be strictly adhered to, but thought late arrivals might be admitted on payment of a fine.— After a conversational discussion, the matter was referred to the ground committee.—The chairman stated that on more than one occasion the judges had been embarrassed by finding cattle and sheep in pens intended for other stock, notably on one occasion twenty sheep were found in a pen alloted to a ram.— It was resolved that no arrivals, unless those entered, will be allowed on the ground.— Mr S. G-arforth complained that no census returns of cattle had as yet appeared in the newspapers.—The Secretary stated that he had written to Wellington on the subject.—Mr Henderson showed a plan of proposed alterations in the arrangement of the cattle and sheep pens on the show ground, the cost of which would be about £l7O, by which about li- aces more laud would be available. It was proposed to floor the hall, which, with lighting, &c., would cost about £loo.—Mr J, T. Ford moved, Mr A. W. Money seconded, and it was resolved—That the sub-committee be instructed to carry out the improvements suggested by them with the exception of flooring the hall.’’—This was all the business.
