The Customs duties collected at Christchurch on Friday, June 24th, were as followß : Spirits, £323 15s Id ; tea, £52 I3s 8d ; goods by weight, £7 12s 5d ; ad valorem, ,£l3 6b. Total, £399 7s 2d. Mr Charles Clark reports an increased inquiry for most descriptions of property. Hia private sales during the past week were :—Two Bmalllota on the Abberiey road sold for £150; ten sections of various sizes, situate in the suburb of Bryndwr, sold to six different purchasers, at an average of about £75 per acre; also, 26 acres of land at Leeaton for £7OO, no improvements. SALE OF LANDED PROPERTIES. A land sale of a very interesting character was effected by Messrs H. Matson and Co., at their rooms in Cashel street, on Saturday last. The chief interest centred in the valuable properties belonging to the estate of the late John Christie Aitken, nearly the whole of which were situated in thelbuaiest parts of the city of Christchurch. A very crowded audience attended, amongst which were to bo seen many of our chief financiers, bankers, merchants, speculators, and others, and the greatest curiosity was shown as to the probable results. Many small betß wero made as to the prices about to be realised. The sale commenced at two o'clock, and in spite of the gloomy weather prevailing outside, there was certainly no depression inside, for a more lively, spirited sale has seldom been witnessed, and the reaalt must have greatly exceeded the moat sanguine expectations of those interested.
