ODDFELLOWSHIP.

The thirtieth anniversary of Loyal City of Norwich Lodge was celebrated on Thursday night in the Oddfellows' Hall at Lyttelton. About seventy of the brethren sat down to the banquet, and that number would probably have been very much larger had the weather been been less disagreeable. The continuous downpour of rain kept away many intending visitors from lodges here from the oelebration. The hall presented a very attractive appearance, and the cuisine arrangements reflected especial credit upon Mr Thos. Green. P.P.G.M. Bro. J. Sowdon filled the chair, and the vice chair was ably filled by i'.G-.M. Bro. Oharles Burns. The surgeons to the Order, Drs. Macdonald and Bouse, were also present. After the repast, the usual loyal and patriotic and civic toasts were honored, "The Mayor and Borough Councillors" finding a happy acknowledgment by Dr. Macdonald. "f he Grand Master and Board of Directors " was responded to by Bro. J. S. Jenkins, who in the course of his remarks stated that the direotory of the order controlled funds aggregating the enormous sum of five millions sterling, contributed to by about 550,000 members. The next toast, " The Lyttelton District officers," was responded to by Bro. 0. Burns, P.G.M., the brother expressing the satisfaction it gave him to note the progress of the order in the Lyttelton district. The total membership 'of the district was at present about 550, and two new lodges, one in Akaroa and another in Geraldine, had been opened during the past year. Bro. Gough responded for "Sister Lodges." Bro. Harrington replied for "Kindred Societies," on behalf of the Druids, Bro. Weatherell, Foresters, Griffiths, N.G. of City of Norwich Lodge, 1.0.0 F. Bro. Griffiths said that during the past five years the lodge had paid £791 lis 6d to sick members, and £195 for funeral expenses. The lodge had 210 members, and a credit invested funds of £3OOO at five per cent. Ho paid a compliment to the juvenile lodge, i whioh had been lately established, and which has at present eighty members. The " Lodge Surgeons," responded to by Dr. Bouse, after ■ which " The Jjadios," " The Press," and other toasts were duly givon and acknowledged.
