SOUTH RAKAIA.
The usual monthly meeting of this Board took place on Thursday last in the office at Mothven. Present The chairman (Mr Julian Jackson), Messrs McMillan, Chapman and Pannett. Correspondence was road from Mr O. S. Alington, asking for leave of absence on account of sickness in his family, Granted. From Matson, Cox anil Co., re an order given in their favor upon the overseer by Riseley and Co. The overseer was instructed to inform Messrs Matson, Cox and Co. that the Board had passed a resolution at their first meeting to the effect that no orders be accepted. From County Council, informing the Board that the electoral roll had been sent, and asking that it may be left open for inspection. Prom same, applying for half coat of protective works at Padding Hill stream, ordered to be paid. From Mr W. H. Barns, informing the Board that a water-hole existed on the top end of the West Coast road, which made it rather awkward for heavy traffic. Resolved to attend to the matter immediately. From Mr Hugo Friedlander, applying to the Board for a grant in aid of the expenses incurred in connection with the late Industrial Exhibition. The Board considered that they had no legal right to grant the application. From the Rangitiki County Council, re the existing conditions of the local bodies in the colony, and ordered to bo acknowledged. From Mr W. Hassey, applying to the Board to form a portion of Thompson’s track. The overseer was instructed to report upon same. From Mr J. C. Wason, requesting the Board to take the necessary steps to close a piece of road in the Oorwar district. Resolved to take the necessary steps to close the road. After passing accounts amounting to £213 8s Id, the Board adjourned till June 9!h.
