ROAD BOARDS.

WEST ETBEION. Tho monthly meeting was held on May 9th. Present —Messrs Dixon (chairman), Davison, Maindonald, Moderate and Wolfe. Letters were road :—From Mr Thomas Woodfield, offering to rent the reserve No. 1612. It was decided that the reserve was not under the control of tho Board. From Mr B. H. Carter, offering to rent the piece of land purchased by the Board for a gravel pit at B mnett’s. Resolved, to accept Mr Carter’s offer at 12s per annum. Mr E. Jeffs rendered an aooonnt for £2 10s for fencing the land purchased from him at Bennett’s. Resolved—“ That Mr Moderate report same at next meeting. Resolved—“ That tenders be invited for a number of works to be sent in next Board day.” The surveyor was directed to have the following work done:—To have a sod fence erected around the gravel pits at tho south end of the Downs road ; to repair the fence at the office by making a sod bank ; to clear out the drain through Mr Higgins’ land, to take tho water from the pipes across tho North Byre road to the large gully ; to get the wells at the office and at the cottages on the Downs rood sunk. Resolved furnish the Oust Bead Board with a statement of accounts between that and the West Eyreton Bead Board, and also to ask the Oust Board to agree to about 100yds of shingle being put on the road from the Tram road to Bennett’s.”

MANDEVILLE AND EANGIOEA. The adjourned monthly meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday. Present—Oapt. Parsons (chairman), Messrs Sanaom, Orosaley, Edwards and Duncan. It was resolved as the first business to express the sympathy of the Board with Mrs Taaffe in her bereavemont by the loss of her husband, late surveyor. Tho Chairman reported on tho progress of works. Letters were read from Mr McDonald relative to gravel pit on North road. Mr Farnham and others attended as a deputation to ask for shingling of Beach road. Tho matter was considered, and it was decided to refer also to the Eaiapoi Borough Council. Tho Rev. Q. P. Mutu attended to ask for drainage at the Maori pah, and the road and footpath to bo shingled, which was promised bo seen to. Mr Isaac Wilson attended and accepted tho valuation of £275 pat upon the road near the factory ; ho also asked to havo the embankment near tho factory raised. Mr Beharrell asked to have a road from Beaoh road formed. It was decided to defer the consideration of the same. Letters were read—From Oust Road Board re filling in ruts on boundary road. Agreed to. From Eaiapoi Board of Health, asking the Board to eo operate in adopting sanitary regulations. It was decided that the Board would assist as far os possible. From Mr King regarding filling the ruts on Drain road. Agreed to be done. It was decided that all rates must be paid before June Ist, or proceedings be taken. It was decided to ask Mr OUivier to audit the accounts to date. Mr C. J. Chapman was appointed clerk pro tom. Accounts, £73 7s, were passed for payment and the Board then adjourned.
