MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
OHBISTOHUBOH. Sattjbday, Apbii, 2. 1 Before B. Westonra and J. E. Parker, Esqrs., J.P’s.] Dbdnkbnnb3B. —For a first offence, a woman was fined ss. Vaobajtcy. - Charles Danton and Thomas Bewlay were brought up charged with haying no visible means of support. Thomas Hiorno, licensee of the Central Hotel, deposed to Danton having loafed about his house, making himself quite at home there without the permission of witness. He had a practice of helping himself to food in the kitchen, and if remonstrated with, wao very abusive. He did no work. Bewlay was his mute. Another hotel-keeper named Burke gave similar evidence. Sergeant Wilson deposed to Danton being a well-known loafer about the town. He never did any work. Sergeant Hughes added his testimony to the same effect. Prisoner Danton said the only loafing he cid was when, after making money up country, he came into town, wont to places like the houses of tbs two first witnesses, and spent it—knocked his cheques down. He worked hard for his living. Bewlay denied the truth of the charge. Mr Hiorns, being re-called, contradicted the statement of Danton. The Bench adjourned till April lltb, when, if prisoners ore found loitering about town, they ore to bo arrested. They were then discharged. John William Simmons, against whom a charge of vagrancy is pending, did not answer to his name. An order was made for his arrest.
