It is supposed that the Government will abandon tho Bill placing restrictions upon the possession of fire arms, whioh has been introduced into the Houso of Commons, as a portion of the legislation in regard to Ireland. Mr Parnell, who ia going from place to place in Ireland addressing people, has withdrawn a portion of a speech ho recently delivered containing seditious matter. The Government are watching for legal proofs to enable them to arrest him. An influentially attended meeting has been held in London in opposition to the proposal of the Government to abandon Candahar. The Popo has issued a manifesto, in whioh he says thoh the Church is being attacked everywhere, and that the new perils whioh assail her aro serious. February 24. Mr Parnell has gone to Paris. Ho has given the leadership of his party to Mr Justin McCarthy. The time of his absence from England is uncertain. He advises tho Irish people to abandon holding meetings for the present. Lord Odo Russell, G.C.8., has been raised to tho Peerage with the title of Baron Ampthilli. The democrats in America are inaugurating a Free Trade agitation. Archdeacon Dunbar's wife is suing for a divorco from her husband. Messrs James Lyall and Co., merchants, of East India avenue, Loadenhall street, have failed for £250,000. February 26. Mr Parnell has had an interview with Cardinal Guilbert, Archbishop of Paris. A Fenian named Devong has Bent a cable message from America threatening to kill Sir Wm. Vernon Harcourt. The controversy as to the retention of Candahar by the British continues. In connection with the peace negociations between the Government at the Cape and the Bosutoa the Imperial Government have telegraphed to Sir Hercules Robinson regretting that tho colonial authorities aro so severe in their demands from the Basutos. It is believed that tho sanguinary war that has so long been waged between Chili and Peru has been brought to a ckae. The terms of peace, it is reported, have beon arranged between tho bolligereDtß. The American bankers condemn the new Funding Bill. There is a serci-panio in New York.
