THEATRE ROYAL.

" RICHELIEU." Hen- Bandmann's last night's impersonation oh' the great Cardinal was an undoubted success. Borne of tho traits in the character were finely brought out, such as the intense patriotism of the Minister, his love for his ward, his vast knowledge of human nature, and his occasional playful satire. The only point on whioh objection could be raised was that the physical weakness of Richelieu, weighing down as it does his ardent spirit, was not sufficiently prominent. Herr Bandmann was a too robust Cardinal, and his bursts into almost full physical power were somewhat startling. This minor defeot was, however, easily pardoned by an audience who enjoyed to the full as spirited a drawing of a oharacter of great, power as has been seen on this stage. Herr Bandmann's acting in the srone where the conspirators attempt to assassinate him was particularly noticeable, and when, with the aid of the repentant Mauprat, ho bafilj« them, he fairly brought down the house. Mr Reynolds us Louis Xill. had but little to do in a very difficult part, but did that little well, with no straining after effect. Mr Oathcart as Baradas wns good, as was Mr Hall as do Mauprat. Julie do Mortemarfounda charming representative in Miss Beaudet, who acted and took the part to perfection. Mr Kunn as Joseph was more successful than we have yet seen him. Mr Manning hardly did justice to the Duke of Orleans. That prince in his hands became a very washed-out individual indeed, and it appeared no wonder that any plans he may have formed came utterly to grief. Miss Hathaway as Francois was rather over-weighted, but acted her part very conscientiously. To-night "Narcisse" will be given.
