Total. £730 > 14a 3d. The opening, of the first month of the year • shows a alight increase of activity on the buai- , aoea of tho previous. It is also satisfactory to know that the acceptances and engagements ■ falling dne on tho 4th inst. have been promptly met, and it is to be hoped that the same may be said of each succeeding month to come for the remainder of the year. During the week the Otaki has arrived, many lines of whoso cargo come to a bare market. When business has fully got into tho usual groove, and transactions are more extended, wo will enter more fully into market. quotations.
