Tho sehoonor Spray, Captain Euxton, arrived last evening from Hokitika with a cargo of timber. She left there on Christmas Day, tho intention of the master being to have entered • the vessel for the regatta on the' Ist inst. Hard westerly winds weie carried from Hokitika to - off Wellington Heads, made forty-eight hours after leaving. The barometer then fell to 28 95, and a southerly wind coming up, the vessel anchored under Kaikonra from the 30th ult. to the 3ird instant, when she left with a northerly light wind, and had easterly light weather since. The a.a. Taioroa arrived from Wellington in the afternoon, and last evening left for Akaroa and South. " THE WAIMATE, FEOM LONDON. The Now Zealand Shipping. Company’s ship Waimato, Captain Peek, arrived from London this morning, with twenty-six passengers, all well. Her passage has been a grand one, having occupied only sixty-six days from 'and to land and- sixty-eight > days from the Eddystone to anchorage She encountered a very heavy storm in the Channel at leaving. A saloon passenger, Mr J. J. Connelly, died on November 14th from phthisis, and one of tho seamen, on January 3rd, from effusion of tho brain. The Waimato’a passage is second fastest on recotd.
