CHRISTCHURCH FIRE BRIGADE.
At a committee meeting held last evening, the superintendent reported that the fireworks from Messrs Brock and Son, of London, had opened satisfactorily, and that about 2001ba. of colored fires and two gross of golden showers are in course of preparation. The seoretary was instructed to write to Mr Back, railway manager, asking that the Fort and northern trains be delayed one hour, if possible, on the night of the 27th inst., also to the Fire Police, visiting brigades and bands to assemble on Boxing Day at 8 p.m. at the Park. A communication was received from the Lyttelton fire brigade, stating that in the event of the train leaving at 11 p.m. they intend making arrangements for another conveyance. A programme of the fireworks, as drawn up by Mr N. K. Oherrill, who has kindly offered his services, was then submitted and approved, which, with rapid firing, will take about one hour and a half to discharge. It was further agreed that the procession start from the Carlton Hotel immediately after tho fireworks display for the railway station. The tenders of the Excelsior and Foresters' drum and fife bands were accepted. A detachment of members were appointed gate keepers to receive contributions from the public. After some routine business the meeting adjourned.
