SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chamber last | evening at seven o’clock. Present—HisWorship tho Mayor, Messrs Pavitt, Andrew, Charters, Joyce, White, Hall, Nioholl. The Returning Officer wrote, announcing the election ot Mr J. T. Brown as the Mayor ef Sydenham. A letter from the Standard Brewery was read complaining of the surface drainage in that locality. Referred to the works committee. Tho works committee’s report was read as i follows: — 1. That Messrs E. Dobson and Son had com- i pleted the plana for the construction of the South belt, which had been forwarded to the 1 City Connell. 2. That an agreement had been : arrived at with the works committee of the Heathoote Bead Board as to the levels to which the tramway line should be laid, the same to be carried out under the Connell’s supervision, and - at the joint expense, of both bodies. 3, That 1 an arrangement had been made with Mr Dunbar to furnish tho Council with dog collars for tho ensuing year at the same rate as paid by ths City Council. 4. That the formation of Mr ( Harman’s private street was completed, and the work of lowering the Windmill road was being proceeded with, as also the formation of footpath thereon. 5. That Mr Brightling had finished lowering the moat troublesome part of Wilson’s road, and as he had expressed his willingness to lower the approach to Wilson's bridge from the Gasworks road 'gratuitously, they recommend that he be given permission to do 80. _ On the motion of Or. White the reception and adoption of the report was agreed to with one dissentient. The finance committee reported the receipts of the past fortnight to be £41114s 3d; expenditure, £lO9 2s 3d; credit balance at Bank. £1239 19s Id. On the motion of Or. Charters, the report was unanimously received and adopted. Messrs Garciok and Oowlishaw wrote, stating that in their opinion Mr Fitz Gerald’s I award in the allocation of properties, &0., between the Heathoote Road Board and the Sydenham Borough Council was final. In compliance with the Act, it was resolved —“ That all owners whose tenants have not paid their rates be sued for same a fortnight :Erom date.” On tho motion of Or, Joyoe, it was resolved —“ That a letter be sent to the Chief Postmaster, asking when tho new post-office will be opened for public business.” On the motion of Or. Joyce, it was resolved —“ That a letter be sent to Mr Meddings, Inspector of Telegraphs, asking him if ho is aware that an extra charge of Is is made on all telegrams delivered in Sydenham.” The Council then adjourned.
