NEWS FROM THE CAPE.
[KBUTBB’fI TBLEGBASt.] [Per s.B. Tararua, at the Bluff.] CAPETOWN, October 26, The news from Basutoland is very serious. Colonel Carrington, who was besieged by the enemy, has been relieved, but not without serious loss on the part of the colonial forces. Thirty-five of the Ist Yeomanry were killed, and seven wounded. The action took place on the 19th inst. On the 22nd a successful attack was made on Lerothodi’s village, which was destroyed. A number of the enemy were killed, and several of the Capetown volunteers were wounded in this engagement, and one has since died. The Pandomis have broken out, and have murdered their magistrate and two of his officers. The Government have_ called out 2000 burghers, and are also recruiting the paid forces.
The Legislative Council of Natal has been opened by Sir G. P. Colley. The revenue for the ensuing year is estimated at £418,900, and the expenditure £418,761. It is reported that the Delagoa Bailway is to be commenced at once.
