THE MISSING MAN.

Nows was brought to Lyttelton yesterday by Mr T. H. Parkinson that the missing man, Maurice Jones, had been seen in Little Banpaki bush on Wednesday. Several search parties and the police set out at once for the place named, but Jones had not been found up to last night. It appears that a son of Mr)Yates, bootmaker of this city, was out for pleasure with a number of friends on Wednesday morning, at about ten o’clock, and they came upon Jones in the bush. Young Yatee says he spoke to him, but Jonas made no reply and he walked off. He was fully dressed as he had been described, but appeared to bo in a greatly emaciated condition and melancholy. Young Yates was unaware that Mr Jones had disappeared, otherwise ho and the party with him would have endeavored to capture the unfortunate man. Later information from the police is to the effect that in scouring the bush at Little Banpaki a solitary individual was found to have taken up his abode there in a tent. He gave his name and address as—Carrington, of the Agricultural College, Lincoln, and from the circumstance of his tent being in the bush named, and very near to the spot at which the supposed Mr Jones was seen, the police are of ojpinion that, it was a case of mistaken identity. This newly-circulated report has, however, caused a more extensive search to be instituted, which it may be hoped will result in the discovery of the missing man within the next few days.
