IMPORTANT SALE OF STUD SHEEP.
Messrs R Wilkin and 00. held a very important sale of pure bred stud sheep at the New Zealand Wool Stores yesterday. There was a large attendance of those interested, and the bidding was brisk. Mr Tabart wielded the hammer, and under his persuasive eloquence the prices realized were entirely satisfactory. The total realised was about £3OOO, the particulars of which are as follows :
A number of sheep were first submitted on account of Mr. James Gibson, of_ Belle Vue, Tasmania, who described them in the following terms :—“ The above sheep have been carefully selected by myself for the New Zealand market. They are all bred from my pure stock, and descended from Old Sir Thomas and Golden Drop, by Old Sir Thomas ; and the following well-known sire rams have been used for the last few years in tbe pure flock—Sir Thomas 2nd by Old Sir Thomas, Tasman by Old Sir Thomas, Merino by Old Sir Thomas, Samson by Old Sir Thomas, and Eclipse by Tasman. The Sir Thomas blood has carried off nearly all the prizes at tbe great sheep shows held in Melbourne for the last three years, and the ram prizes at the Sydney International Exhibition. Old Sir Thomas and all the sire rams mentioned were bred by myself.” The following are the purchasers and prices of nine four-tooth pure merino rams :—Mr John McLean, 155 gs ; Hon. John Hall, lOOgs and 90gs ; Mr Harry Ford, 30gs ; Messrs Mallook and Lance, 30gs; Mr E. Mitchell, 15gs, 274g5, and 17Jgs ; and Mr Julian Jackson, 40gs. Mr Lyons (of Napier) bought 11 two-tooth pure merino stud ewes at 15gs each. The next on the oatologue were the pure merino stud ewes and rams bred by Mr W. Henry Gibson, of Fairfield, Epping, Tasmania. They were the progeny of Sir Thomas the Ist and Tasman, which were sold in Melbourne for 80gs and 300 gs respectively. The purchasers and prices of those were as follows :—Mr G. H. Moore, 190 gs ; Mr Hawkins, lOOgs ; Mr M. Studholme, 50gs; Messrs Mallock and Lance, 175 g s; Mr Launcelot Walker, 65gs; Mr O. G. Bawdon, 65gs; Messrs Mallook and Lance, 20gs and 50ge; Mr Gardiner, 30gs and 30gs ; Mr Lyons, 27igs, 27igs, 20gs, 20ga; and Messrs Clifford and Weld, 14ge and 14gs. On account of Mr B. Jones, Biccarten, the following four-tooth rams, by Young Sir Thomas, were sold to Mr D. Fraser, 20gs and 15gs j Messrs Clifford and Weld, 16gs and 16gs; Mr M. Sbudholme, 17gs and 17gs; also the following two-tooth rams to Messrs Clifford and Weld, 13gs and 13gs; Mr Charles Bed wood, 12cs and 12gs ; Mr Jones, 12gs; Mr {Harry Ford, 17£gs; and Mr Gorton, 70gs. Mr Tabart also sold on account of Messrs W. Gibson and Son, of Scone, Tasmania, Boyal Duke, six-tooth, sire Duke, a reserved stud ram, used for the last two years in a pure flock; shorn October 18th, 1879; weight of fleece last year (365 days’ growth) 171bs, which was purchased for 170 gs by the Hon, W. Bobinson. Goldmine, six-tooth, sire Topper, dam a champion ewe, used in stud last year, which was purchased by the same buyer for 155 gs. Other rams were ssld to the following gentlemen :—Mr Lyons, 65gs; Mr Joseph Pearce, 105 gs and 70gs; Mr Parker, 140 g s; Mr Charles Bedwood, lOOgs. On account of the same owners, pure merino stud ewes were sold : Mr Lyons, 32£gs, 20gs, 22gs; Mr Parker, 15ga; Mr Dowling, 15gs and 15gs; Mr i Parker, 32igs and 32£gs.
