CANTERBURY AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION EXHIBITION.
The annual exhibition, under the auspioes of this association, was well patronised by the publio to-day when the admission was Ib. The rain which fell last night had the good effect of effectually laying the dust, which in former years has been one of the features of the road. The extra facility afforded by the tram-cars was largely taken advantage of by the general public, and to that cause, combined with the glorious weather, may be attributed the extra large attendance. The other methods of conveyance were likewise largely patronised, and the footpaths were lined by an eager string of eight-seers on pleasure bent. In the grounds the usual refreshment stalls and all kinds of notions for the youngsters were to be found in profusion. As time rolls on, so does this exhibition improve year by year. The entries were very numerous, and colonially-made [agricultural implements were largely represented. Doublefurrow ploughs, subsoilers and ohaffcutten were particularly noticeable—one firm alone shewing nine of the latter. The various sheep and cattle classes were each well filled, as also the various classes for horses. The omnivorous animals were no exception to the general improvement noticeable, and the various breeds of pigs —not forgetting the celebrated Berkshire—were a decided feature of the show. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association are to be congratulated on the complete success attending the show of this year—as the number and quality of exhibits are thoroughly satisfactory.
