NEW ZEALAND COUNTRY JOURNAL.
The November number of this journal has been published, and, as usual, is full of matter interesting not alone to the farmer and breeder, but the general reader. The ill nitration this month is a well-executed picture of Mr Stead’s celebrated sire Leolinus, from a painting by Mr Fodor, and a brief account of the horse forms the first paper. Mr Armstrong’s interesting history of the grasses is continued, and then we come to the over-welcome paper by Mr Potts, “Out in the Open.” This month that gentleman discourses most pleasantly and yet instructively on rare or little known birds. In the course of a short paper he manages to convey a large amount of information regarding many native birds, which are gradually, alas, being exterminated. Papers on dairy farming,beekeeping, and the cultivation of roots follow, and then comes the continuation article on Clydesdales. There is a well written, though somewhat brief, review of the book of the Lancashire delegates, and a short paper by Mr Potts on eels. “Oaveason” has his usual monthly budget of sport, in which the events taking place daring the period in racing, cricket, &0., are told crisply and well. Mr Gray’s valuable paper on the chemistry of manures, the usual farm and garden calendar, statistical information, and other matters go to make up a very good number indeed, one which reflects great credit on those concerned in its production,
