RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of this Council vcs held in the Borough Chambers on Friday evening last. Present—The Mayor (Mr H. Blackett), Councillors Crothers, Boyd, Stephens, and White. An apology was tendered and received for the absence of Councillor Ivory. The re-elected members oi Council, Messrs Johnston, Burt, and Ellis, having made their several declarations before his Worship the Mayor, took their seats. Letters were read from MV O. Jennings re clock in Council Chambers, and asking Council to purchase same. After discussion it was proposed, seconded, and carried “That tenders for supplying a good English lever olook be called for from Messrs Shilton, Jennings, Ball, and Bobillard.” From the Hon. Secretary of the Bangiora Volunteer Fire Brigade, recommending the municipal authorities to purchase a steam fire engine, and also os to the necessity and advantage of forming a corps of fire police. Proposed, seconded, and carried—" That the Fire Insurance Companies Association be asked to contrilutc towards the purchase of a steam fire engine for Bangiora.” The clerk was instructed to acknowledge receipt of the Brigade’s letter. From Charitable Aid Board re A. Gough, in which it was stated that upon sufficient evidence being produced that his friends in the Bays would receive and support him the Board would undertake his passage there, and stating that Mrs J. Scott’s case had been attended to. From Mr O.H. Williams, asking Council to pay the moiety of cost of boundary fence between his laud and the borough reserve at Methven. The payment of share of fencing, if properly completed, was determined on. Thu town surveyor’s report was read and considered. The question of the repairs to the wooden korbing in High street, from Lniton's corner to Good street, wes finally set at rest by the decision of the Council to form a concrete ksrbing and channel, one chain down Ashley street, and thence from the junction of Ashley and High streets to the boundary of the Junction Hotel and Or. Good’s property. The clerk was instructed to attend to the following matters : —To advertise again that legal proceedings would he taken at once against those burgesses who could not find the heart to pay the rates. To take legal proceedings against one gentleman without farther notice re same matter. To advertise for tenders for the supply of the necessary number of dog collars for 1881. Bates were ordered to be remitted in the oases of Lucy Argent, Messrs Fennell, Colson and Norfolk. She credit balance in the Bank was reported to be £338 15s lid, including cheque for £4O received from the Mandeville and Bangiora Boad Board, being the borough’s share of the further payment of the Impounded Land Fund. Accounts amounting to £65 17s were duly considered and passed for payment. The Council then adjourned.
