KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL
The fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present — Ors. Smith (presiding). Pinching, Eraser, Monk, Stanton, Woodford, and Mathews. Leave of absence was granted to the Mayor. Or, Moore, chairman works committee, reported the cost of forming and shingling Raven street, in accordance with Mr Holland’s letter, would be £l3, but it might be repaired at a cost of £3, Smith street had been cleared of gorse at a cost of £3 12s. The -contractor had finished the making of the lamps, and the committee recommended a lamp be put up at junction of Hilton street and North road. The committee asked for time to report on footpath on North road. The report was adopted. Or. Eraser, chairman finance committee, reported the receipts to have been £l2 7s, and the balance in Bank £195 10a 8i; in deposit account £56 17s lid. Payments amounting to £4O 19s 9d wore passed. Or. Woodford asked for information as to the length of time the swing bridge was kept open on the last occasion on which a vessel went through. Cr. Moore, chairman of works committee, promised to report at next meeting. A lengthy discussion took place in reference to the non-completion of the Beach road culvert, and after three motions had been made, the question of doing the work and charging the contractor, Mr Butt, with the cost, was deferred. A tender, £8 17s 6d, for erection of a tool house, was accepted. Or. Pinching moved the re-consi-deration of the question of forming the footpath from the bridge to the railway station, and after some discussion it was deferred till next meeting. The Council then adjourned.
