WELLINGTON, October 13. The complete returns of the revenue and expenditure for last quarter are now made up, and will bo gazetted on Thursday. I have been able to obtain a copy, and the detailed figures are as follows : —Assets of 31st March, since realised, £18,714 ; Customs, £315 378 j stamps, £36 086 ; land tax, £13,001 ; beer duty, £9583 ; railways, £202,250 ; postal, £33,921 ; telegraphic, £17,412 ; judicial, £13,824 ; land transfer, &0., £11,086; registration fees, &e., £8568 ; marine £3437 ; miscellaneous, £19,073 ; total, £683,593. The territorial revenue was as follows : Land sales, £48,684; pastoral rents, &e., £9319 ; miscellaneous, £569; total, £58,673. “ Miscellaneous recoveries” during the quarter amounted to £5170, making the total receipts for the September quarter £747,337. The expenditure was as follows : —Liabilities of March 31st, since paid £1085; miscellaneous services, £39,745 ; permanent appropriation (including interest and sinking fund, £415,496), £457,400; legislative, £24,828; Colonial Secretary’s department, £64,600; treasury, £19,059 ; justice, £33,323 ; postal and telegraphic, £66,824; Customs. £18,896 ; stamps, £6091; education, £62,451; Native, £3831 ; mines, £3221 ; public works, £174,463 ; defence, £69,893 ; land, £36,171. Total (less £42,000 transferred from the public works fund for contingent reference), £970,560.

The cash balances on September 30th were as follows :—Public account, £89,508 ; advances in hands of Government officers, £256,049. Total, £345,558. The expenditure of the public works fund during the quarter amounted to £687 276.
