The match between the Canterbury Chets Club and players from clubs in other districts was commenced to-day at ten o’clock, in the rooms of the Philosophical Institute. Sixteen players faced each other, and at the time the adjournment was made fur lunch the matches st .od as follows : Mr Moore, O 0.C., v Mr Joyce, of Lyttelton, Ist game unfinished, even. Mr Mating, 0.0 0., v Mr Sopp, of Lyttelton, Ist game unfinished, even. Mr Jacobsen, C. 0.0, v Mr Hunter, of L itl fi-Id, Ist game unfi; iebed, even. Mr Hook ham, 0.0 O , v Mr Me Adam, of Leithfi-ld, Ist game unfinished, even. Mr Veel, 0.0.0, v Mr Smellie, of Leithfield, Ist game unfinished, even.) Mr Joseph, 0.0.0. v Mr Hilson, of Leithfield, Ist game unfinished, slightly in favor of the latter. Mr Izard, 0.0.0., v Mr Crisp, of Ashburton, Ist game unfinished, slightly in favor of the former. Mr Peer, 0.0.0., v Mr Mason, of Lyttelton, two games to the credit of Mr Peez. To-niglt the Club entertain the strangers at a dinner at the Terminus Hotel.
