fßz Tblbseaph.] The following are • additional items per b.b. Tararua:— MELBOURNE, September 21. On the motion of Mr Service, returns were submitted to Parliament, showing that the expenditure of the last Government on public works was £12,791 only, including the expenses of continuing the works previously authorised. The Minister for Public Works has decided to proceed with the ereotion of the new Prince's bridge without delay, if the corporation will co-operate. The Melbourne wool sales open at the beginning of October. The " Argus" states that a considerable quantity is coming from Newcastle and Sydney, and that a number of growers, in consequence of the cheap freight _ and superior market, now forwarded their olips to Melbourne in preference to Sydney for sale. Tbo same paper further states that it is probable that arrangements will be made this seaeon for shipments to Havre direct, by steamers via Suez. Sir William and Lady Robinson arrived by the Siam and are guests of the Governor until after the opening of the Exhibition. Mr Proctor leaves to-day per Tararua.
