CORN EXCHANGE.

The following ia the Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 24th September, 1880 : Business during the week has been of a most unimportant character. The principal business doing is grain passing inta local consumption. Shippers are in the market forfeed grains. The demand is scarcely so good, as there appears to be some difficulty in obtaining freight. With the wool season now rapidly approaching, it is probable that this difficulty will increase. The market for all classes of grain ia hardly so strong. Wheat.—Good sound milling ia being inquired for, and is saleable at from 4s to 4s 3d; second quality, 3s 6d to 3s 9d; c..ick wheat, 2s 6d to 3b 3d per bushel. Oats.—Stout short milling are being offered at from Is 7d to Is 8d per bushel. Buyers are in the market, but are hardly so eager. For the before-mentioned description thoy are giving Is 6d to Is 8d in Christchurch ; good feed qualities are saleable at from is 3d to Is 4d per bushel; second quality feed. Is Id to Is 2d per bushel. _ Barley.—Browers and ma’tatars are still in the market for good malting samples, prices are, however, in no way affected. Good malting is saleable at from 2a 3d to 2s 8d per bushel. Extra prime quality, 3s to 3s 6d per bushel. Feed qualities are being enquired for, and are saleable at from Is 6d to Is 9d per bushel. Potatoes.—The market for this tuber has experienced a very decided fall. Considerable quantities are offering, with bnt an indifferent demand. Sales have taken place during the week at from 10s to 20a ptr ton, sacks extra. It is difficult to quote au exact value, as the exigencies of the case frequently influence the price. In nil cases sacks extra. Cheese and Butter.—There is no change to report in the state of the market for these articles of prodoce. Tho former is in fair supply at from 4d to 4od. The latter ia abundant, and is hardly saleable. Grass Seed.—A better inquiry has been appa rent during the week, but prices arc not sensibly affected. Good heavy well cleaned samples will fetch from 2s 9d to 3s. Farmers’ parcels badly dressed vary from Is 9d to 2s 6d per bn°hel. Cocksfoot—Good heavy seed is fetching 2|d to 3d per lb in small lines. Largo lines at a a mule under the quotations. Hay.—sos to 55s per ton delivered in Chrischurch.
