NORTH KOWAI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of this committee was held in the schoolroom, Amberley, on Tuesday eToning. Present —Messrs T. Douglas, Gaynor, and Williams (chairman). The chairman reported that he had notified to Mr T. Douglaß his election to the vacancy on the committee, and that gentleman bad accepted the position. Miss Vogle, the pupil-teacher, resigned on a short notice, and an advertisement for a new pupil-teacher had resulted in two applications, but in neither case did the applicants understand the status of a pupil-teacher. From a communication from tne Board of Education, it would seem that at present there was no intention to declare a new district round the new aohool. Mr Evoiiss had given the names of the two most deserving bays, one in each Toom, for a prize. The attendance at both main and side schools was steadily increasing, last week's attendance at the main school being 107. It waa resolved to write to the Board of Education asking them what amount they would vote to eitra teacher's salary, as the committee might see their way to supplementing it by donations from parents, so that a aum could be offered on which a teachercould live, which the pupil-teachers' salary would not allow of. It was decided to give prizes to the two boys named by the master.
