DIOCESAN SUNDAY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the above association was held last evening in the parish school-room, St. liuke'e. The Bev. E. A. Lingard presided, -and upwardb of 200 were present. After the usual devotional exerciaeß, briefly introduced Archdeaoon Harper, who gave a lecture on St. Ignatius, his life, and some account of his celebrated letters. The reverend gentleman gave an interesting account of the various disputes at different Bges of tbe Church as to the authenticity of the epistles attributed to St. Ignatius, narrating how Calvin, at the period of the Reformation, threw them over as forgeries ; also, that Archbishop Usßher, in 1644, discovered two Latin copies—one at Cambridge, and the other at Norwich—and even so late as 1842, Archbishop Tatham discovered a Syrian version of these epistles, which were published in 1849, and pronounoed by Professor Lightfoot to bo genuine. The reverend gentleman gave a graphic description of the interview of the Emperor -Trojan with Ignatius on the occasion of the visit of that monarch to Antiocb, whioh resulted in Trajan ordering him to Borne, and thence to martyrdom. An interesting discussion ensued, and on the motion of Mr Adams, seconded by the Bev. H. C. M. Watson, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the reverend lecturer, and acknowledged by him. The Bev. T. Elavell gave notices of motions for the annual meeting of the association, to be held on the 14th Ootober, in St. John's School-room. Mr Webb proposed, and Bev. W. C. Harris seconded—" That the usual intercessionary services on behalf of Sunday Schools be held in Canterbury on the same day as in England," which was agreed to. The meeting was closed in the usual form.
