WEST MELTON LIBRARY.
The annual general meeting of the members of the West Melton Library was held in the reading-room on Monday evening, the 6th instant, for the purpose of receiving the committee’s report and balance-sheet and electing a fresh committee for the ensuing year. Mr Jones (chairman) read the report and balance-sheet. The report indicated a slight falling off in the number of subscribers from the past year. During the year the librarian exchanged about thirty volumes with the Courtenay Library committee, and a like number with Halkett, which appeared to have been appreciated by subscribers. The balance in the hands of the treasurer was considered satisfactory, and it was resolved that the report and balance-sheet be received and adopted. Votes cf thanks were passed to the retiring committee, and a special vote to Mr Sandison, and an honorarium of two guineas for zealous attention to his duties as librarian. It was also resolved that the greater portion of the balance in hand bo expended in the purchase of fresh books. The members of committee elected for the ensuing year are—Messrs Jones, Murray, Hill, Ooutts, Trickett, Watson, Lawy, Mason, and Sandison. At a subsequent meeting, Mr Jones was re-elected chairman, Mr Murray secretary and treasurer, Mr Sandison librarian. It was resolved to hold the next committee meeting on Monday evening next. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
