PAPANUI ODDFELLOWS.

The Loyal Papanni Lodge 1.0.0. F., M.U , was opened with due ceremony at the library last evening. There were present Prov. G.M. Aherne, with the several membera of the Ashley district ; Past-Prov. G-.M, Taaft'e, Acting N, G. ; P.P.Q-.M. Fraser, V.G. ; P.P.G.M. Liddell, acting G.M., supported by D.P.O.M. Wilkins, P.P.GM. Clarke, &o. Prov. 0. 8. Bichardson acted as secretary. After the preliminary steps had been taken, several candidates were initiated, P.O.’s Collier and Truman acting as conductors. Bro. Dr. Campbell, who was present, was appointed lodgo surgeon, and the following were elected and installed as officers for the ensuing term : —Bro. Nicholls, N.G.; Bro. Bhind, V.G. ; Bro. W. Hancock, secretary; Bro. Wild, treasurer. About seventy brethren were present, many of whom were Past Grands, and represented the following lodges—City of Christchurch, Volunteer, Benevolent, Perseverance, Kaiapoi, Bangiora, Waltham, and Phillipstown. The usual sentiments were given and some flattering remarks were made by the visiting brethren. “ Health and prosperity to the Papanui Lodge ” was proposed, and a special vote of thanks recorded to P.P.G.M. Taafe, who suitably responded. The lodge then closed.
