l_Br TEtEGBAPH.] [Per b.b. Hero.] LONDON, August 24. Generald Donald Stewart is evidently retiring -with his army to Lundi. Kotal, and even Khyber, will perhaps be abandoned. An agitation has commenced in England in favor of the retention of Candahar by the British. Permission has been granted to the Tichborne claimant to appeal to the House of Lords againßt the recent decision of the Court on a writ cf error. Nobody credits Line's statement that, sices his release, he has been able to produce evidence that the Claimant landed at Melbourne from the Oaprey. LONDON, August 25. G-eneral Phayre's advance is delayed by want of transports. Ayoub Khan's force is now so increased that he has been able to detach the Cabulese to watch the troops under General Roberts. August 26. At a banquet given at Copenhagen to Sarah Bernhardt, the well-known actress, the German Minister propoied the toast of " France and Sarah Bernhardt," and in replying Bhe said that she hoped the toaßt included " Alsace and Lorraine." Great confusion ensued, the Danes cheering the eentiment. Mons. Theimter, of the French legation, then descanted on the former intimate relations between France and Denmark. Renewed confusion thereupon ensued, and the chairman left the chair. The German Government have directed their Minister to take leave of absence. LONDON, August 23. British troops now occupy various etralegic positions in the Khjbar Pass between Peßhawur and Jellalabad, to the south-east of Cabul. General Gough is in command of the garrisons in the Pasa. A recent dispatch contains information of a fight between a strong body of the enemy at the Kuchammadan post in the Khjber Pass and tho British. The enemy was repulaed after a sharp engagement with the loss of one hundred killed and a large number wounded. The British loss was trifling. A daring theft has been perpetrated at the military barracks at Bagher. The stores were broken open during the night, and a large number of rifles were stolen. There is no cluo as to the persons concerned in the robbery, but it is generally understood that the thieves are Fenians, and"the weapons wero stolen and intended for aggressive acts of disloyalty.
