FINE ARTS.
Mr Schourup, of Colombo street, has just completed some really exquisite pictures by the carbon process, on opal, china, Sc 3., which, are well worth inspection. Same of them were intended to be forwarded to the Melbourne Exhibition, where, no doubt, they would have been greatly admired, but unfortunately they were not completod in timo. The pictures coznpriie views on tho Avon, groups of photographs, both plain and colored, and a novelty in the shape of two well executed photographs on china vases, which, considering the peculiar shape upon which they have tc be taken, are wonderfully illustrative of the strides photography has made duriDg the paet few years. In connection with this the carrying out of this process on such objects as vases, Sec, opens up a large field, as each member of a family will be enabled to have his or her photograph on the china cup, or even it may bo thoto of relatives and friends, so that.
like the poor, we might always have them -with us. The plain and colored photographs «n opal are exceedingly pretty, the latter especially so, possessing all the softness of an ivory miniature. One groat desideratum about these pictures are that, being pure carbon and no chemicals being used, they are practically imperishable.
