LECTURE.

On Thursday evening, Aug. 19 th, the Eev. David McKee, of the North town belt, delivered a lecture on " The Second Reformation in Scotland" in the Papanui Presbyterian church, the proceeds being devoted to the funds of tbe Sabbath school. Tho pastor (Rev, W. H. Horner) occupied the chair and suitably introduced the lecturer. The audience, which nearly filled the ohurch, listened with much interest to Mr McKee's examination of the circumstances and surroundings of the Covenanters, and greatly enjoyed his graphic pictures of the scenes of that memorable time. The speaker presented in eloquent style the lessons—political and religious—of the great Scotch struggle for liberty of conscience, entering with enthuoiasm into every part of his theme, whether humourous or pathetic. At the close, very hearty thanks were presented to Mr McKee by tho meoting, and an evening of vory much instruction and enjoyment terminated with tho benediction.
