THEATRE ROYAL.
"Tho Stranger," a well known emotional play in five acts, was last night's bill, and a fairly numerous audience witnessed its representation. Mrs Walter Hill took the part of Mrs Holler, and Mr Charles Burford sustained the title role. The lady's acting was all that could be desired in a oharacter not by any means easy to represent. Mr Burford gave a clever rendering of the melancholy mortal whom ho had to impersonate, and the remaining parts wero distributed with good judgment. Considered from the standpoint of playgoers who enjoy what is technically known as "agony," " The Stranger" is a nice piece. With the exception of "Tho Bottle," "East Lynne," "Leah," and perhaps ono or two other haunting narratives, there is nothing to rival it for high claBS misery in dramatic literature. Tho audience laßt evening were not wanting in appreciation of the efforts made to entertain them, and accorded several " calls," This evening "The Shaughraun" will be produced, Mr Burford to appear as Conn, and Mrs Hill aa Clare Folliott. This may be regarded as & happy selection for Saturday night, and no doubt the bill will attract a large audience.
