THE CONSTABULARY.
The escort of Constabulary that arrived here in charge of the Native prisoners returned to Wellington last night in the Hinemoa. A word or two in reference to them may be said, and it is satisfactory to be able to express a favorable one. The falling in of the squad on board at 8 o'clock yesterday morning for inspection afforded those who were present an opportunity of forming an opinion, and it is creditable to the corps that tho opinions expressed were most complimentary. The men were altogether of tho better class, all young and active, well clothed, scrupulously tidy in respect to their clothing, and military in their bearing. Those spectators who were looking on at the time referred to will be surprised to learn that not one of the men had been in the force for more than twelve months. In addition to their cavalry and infantry drill, they are well up in the handling of heavy ordnance or big gun drill, tho intention being to utilise them in the fort batteries should necessity arise at any time. Inspector Coleman gave them an excellent turns for behaviour and general deportment.
