RAILWAY EMPLOYES' MEETING.
A meeting of the committee of the railway employes re the reductionof wages was held at the Terminus Hotel last evening, when it was reported that letters had been received from Mr Beader Wood and Mr Stevens expressing sympathy with the movement, and pointing ont that the reduction was not to be hard and fast, but would be discriminative, and in no case would it be below the rate paid by private firms. A letter was also read from the Hon. E. Biohardson, stating that he had presented the petition, and that when the estimates came on he hoped to be of further Bervice. Some conversation also took place in reference to tne rates of wages paid in the Government shops in Ohristchurch and Dunedin, it being stated that the wages were as muoh aB 20_ or 30 per cent, higher in Dunedin than in Christohnroh for the same class of work. Some further accounts were passed for payment, and a vote of thanks to tho chairman closed the proceedings.
