New Zealand oats, 2s 7id ; milling qualities show a slightly improved tendency. MELBOURNE, July 22. Parliamentary. Mr Mason, member for South Gippsland, and a supporter of the Opposition in the Assembly, is a candidate for the position of Chairman of Committees. Action for Libel. A writ has been served upon a Melbourne newspaper for £SOOO damages, at the instance of Messrs Swallow and Atiell, for libel, in stating that the firm had dismissed several of their employees in connections with tho recent elections.
