CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, July 2. [Before O. Whitefoord, Esq., R.M.] Drunkenness. —John |Pioijore, Richard Armstrong, alias Shaw, and John Brett, were each Sued XOs for drunkenness. A further charge against Brett, of obstructing constable Sheehan, was dismissed. An Absconder. —James Neil, alias George Lowden, arrested on warrant, was charged with disobeying a summons demanding his appearance at tho Resident Magistrates Court, Dunedin, to answer a complaint of keeping a house of ill-fame. He was remanded to Dunedin. Pawnbroker’s License. —Seigmund Cohen applied for a renewal of license as a pawnbroker. A complaint was put in by the police, stating that applicant had not supplied them with information required to trace a case of felony, and that by carelessness or otherwise in not looking up his books to discover an article pledged with him, he had almost rendered their efforts futile to discover the offender. Applicant admitted he had been guilty of carelessness, but urged that this was the first complaint made against him for 1 seven years, and he- had always aided the i police as much ns ha could, voluntarily giving them information which they could not have obtained. His Worship would take thu into consideration, and granted a renewal of license, at the same time pointing out the absolute necessity of pawnbrokers rendering the police ( all assistance in their power. , LYTTELTON. , Erxday, July 2. [Before Joseph Beswick, Esq., R.M.] Larceny. —A man named Bandy, arrested 1 at Lyttelton this morning, waa remanded to > Christchurch to answer a charge of larceny of a watch, the property of A. A. Everett. Civil.— J. Durham, on a judgment summons for arrears on order of maintenance, was r given a week’s time to pay into Court £2. - Roman v. Veminny ; judgment summons ; [ ordered to pay 10s per week.
