NEW METHOD OF SHIPPING HORSES.

Tt'Tho " Argus" gives the following account of a new method of shipping horses which was tried at Sandtidge a few weeks ago : —Mr T. Warren, who for many years past has been a large shipper of horses for the Indian market, has devised a scheme for walking the horses on board ship, and thus avoiding the risk of injury. He was unable to put his plan in action laßt season in Melbourne, but he had the opportunity of tryiDg it in Calcutta with a cargo of horses he took there in the ship BUora. It answered so well that the whole shipment, consisting of 17G howes, were walked ashore under two hours without the least trouble, wheroas by the old plan of slinging it would have taken two or throe days. The method adopted by Mr Warren is as simple a3it is efficacious. The horse is walked into a small enclosuro on the pier, from which un inclined stago about 4ift. wide leads on to the deck of the ship. This stage is enclosed with boarding, so that the horse cannot see around him ; stout battens are fixed across the flooring to givo him a foothold, and the whole is covered with aand. On reaching the deck a sharp turn is made, and the horse walks down another inclined stage to the 'tween decks, and thonco another inclined stage leads to the lower hold, the staging from the starting-point on the wharf being boarded in to a sufficient height to prevemt the horse seeing over it. The new mode of shipping horses ifl very much more expeditious and certainly more humane than the old one.
