CHRISTCHURCH BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION.

A full meeting of the committee took place at 10.30 yesterday morning, at the old Post-office. His Worship the Mayor presided, and all the members were present. Mr March kindly attended in order to afford the committee any information or assistance. A letter was read from Mr W. B. Mitchell, declining to act as secretary, but generously promising to help by moans of his subscription. A subscription received from Mr W. Pratt of £5 was acknowledged, this having been omitted in the previous list. Mr W. For a ter was invited by the committee, through the Mayor, to act as secretary, which he readily consented to do. A sub-committee, consisting of the Mayor and Mr Morton, assisted by Mr March, was appointed to en gaga a caretaker and his wife to have charge of the building. It was decided that the old Post-office shall be fitted up as a soup kitchen, and that the boiler from tho Orphanage should be obtained and fixed. It was resolved that subscriptions in money and kind should be advertised for, tho money to be receiv d by the Mayor and honorary treasurer, and the goods at the old post-office, on and after Saturday next. Mr Bosewarne consented to act as a sub-committee to obtain a supply of meat and greengrocery, and undertook to see them safely deposited at the Benevolent Association’s depot. It was resolvtd that four members of the committee (Messrs Thomson, Bird, Pratt, and Maskell) be deputed to go round to the parish clergymen and find out the names and addresses of those who require immediate relief, and take all necessary steps to afford needful aid without loss of time. It was decided that the honorary treasurer open a banking account in tho name of the Benevolent Association, and that tho chairman and treasurer be authorised to sign cheques. After sitting upwards of two hours the committee adjourned until Friday morning next, at 10 30, at the same place.
