ASHBURTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
After three successive special meetings of the above Council having fallen thrcmh for the want of a quorum, a sufficient numbsr of councillors wa* got together last Monday evening to pass the by-laws. The Mavor stated that there was to credit a sum of £319 15s, but a certain sum, the amount of which had not been exactly ascertained, would have to be refunded to the Wakanui Road Board, as they had paid it illegally. Cr. Saunders stated that the planting committee had resolved to ask the County Council for a sum equal to the amount which they would expend on planting, and the Mayor and Cr. Saunders were appointed a depu'ation to wait on tie County Council for that purpose. The tenders of Messrs Montgomery and Co. for cement and timber, of Mr Lyon for repairs to the immigration cottages, and of Messrs Mortimer and Orr for kerbing East and Burnet’., streets, were accepted. After some business of a minor importance was transacted the Council adjourned.
