KAIAPOI REGATTA COMMITTEE.

A meeting of this committee was held at the Borough offices on Thursday evening, May 27th. There were seven present, Mr R. Moore in the chair. Mr Dudley, hon. see., reported the total receipts to be from all sources £BS 3s 9d, the amount paid in prizes and payments due £lO3 10a 101, showing a deficit of £lB 7a Id It was decided that the secretary should authorise some one to collect the outstanding subscriptions. A letter was read from the Union Rowing Club, stating that some of the members understood that two or three members of the regatta committee had promised the payment to the club of the prize in the second sweepstakes race if the crew rowed oyer. The secretary was instructed to reply that the commit! os was not aware of this, but in the first sweepstakes race had agreed to pay the prize of £5 because they thought the second boat entered might have been rowed. In the second race, the unavoidable absence of one of the crew of the second boat prevented its going for the race. The committee’s rule was that two boats must start or there would be no race, and having handed the Union Club an amount equal to the first stake, though there was no race, towards expenses, they did not see a way to do more. On the motion of Mr A. T. Clark, seconded by Mr G. W. Wearing, it was decided that a meeting be hold in the first week of October to decide on holding the next regatta, which, it was suggested, might bo held on Boxing Day if the meeting so decided. A vote of thanks to the Mayor for the use of the Borough Chambers, and to the chairman, terminated the meeting
