CANTERBURY FEMALE REFUGE.
The monthly meeting of the committee was held on Wednesday last. Present—Mr G. Booth (in the chair), the Very Her. the Dean, Messrs J. P. Jameson (treasurer), G. Bowron, and J. Aldred (secretary.) The earnings for the month were £3l 13s 8d; expenditure, £73 7a lOd; number of inmates, 14; infants, 11. The treasurer reported the receipt of two sums, £lO and £6 13s 41, from the Resident i Magistrate’s Court. The secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the committee to the Chairman of the Kaiapoi i Woollen Company for the gift of two pieces of flannel, and to Mr H. B. May for a piece i of wincey. The new wing for Class 8., as i suggested by the ladies’ committee, will be 1 named the Female Reformatory. The sub- i committee regretted that there had been delay t in fitting up the new wing, but expected that j in a few days it would be in a state of readi- t ness to admit women under that class, I
