[PBHBB ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, May 15. The Naval Brigade. The officers of the Naval Brigade entertained the members at dinner last night. 200 were present. Railway Communication. The railway line to Masterton is expected to be opened in August. The line is now complete to within three miles of Carterton, to which place the line will be finished in July. It is not, however, intended to open to Carterton till the Masterton line is opened. HAWBEA, May 15. The Native Question. The Natives are again passing through here to attend the usual monthly Parihaka meeting on the 17th. The roads and surveys are progressing without opposition. WANGANUI, t'ay 15. Sporting. Nominations for the Wanganui Steeplechase Handicap close to-night at 9 o’clock. AUCKLAND, May 14. Pleuro-pneumonia-A fresh case of pleuro-pneumonia has broken out at Messrs Ireland’s estate, Fanmure. The animal was killed, and the post mortem flUowed conclusive evidence of pleuro. There had net been a case since 12th March, and It presumed that it was developed by the change to wet weather. Native Lands Court. The Native Lands Court at Cambridge has transacted little business yet respecting the Patere and other blocks. Mr James Eussell, of Auckland, and Mr Grace appear for the Ngatiarukau and others. The Mangapoure is the only case investigated since the Court opened. Te Ngakou is a regular and patient attendant at the Court, but he is a silent spectator and listener, and, though on several occasions the Maoris have desired him to interfere, the great orator resolutely held his tongue. Topn Hai, of the Ngatimaniapoto, is present, also Eangitutana and a number of the same tribe of Tukeimo, Upper Thames, is expected to-day. A large number of Natives are expected next week from distant parts. The Patere block of 25,000 acres is not likely to be put through es a whole, but will probably have to be subdivided into a number of sections. Another block of 100,000 acres adjoining is expected to go through this sitting, but it is doubtful if such will be accomplished. WANGANUI, May 14. Major Kemp’s RepresentativesMessrs Sievwright and Stout left Wanganui in a canoe this morning for Murimotu. It is understood that they are acting for Major Kemp. WELLINGTON, May 14. InsurancesThe origin of the fire last night is not known. The shop of Mr Johnston, which was partly destroyed, was insured as follows : Furniture, £SO, in the Union; shop, £SO, in the South British ; tools and timber, £25, in the Union ; total, £175. Bonded Warehouse Account. The “ Gazette ” contains a bonded warehouse account showing the quantity of each dutiable article received and delivered at each port during the March quarter, and the amount remaining in bond on March 31st. N.Z- MunicipalitiesA statement is being compiled by order of the Government and will be presented to Parliament, showing the comparative extent and value of the endowments, rates and property of the various municipalities in New Zealand. The s.s- Grafton. The steamer Grafton, which arrived from Westport this evening, struck the Westport bar, there being insufficient water for her to cross. She had her rudder carried away and three blades knocked off her propeller. A temporary steering apparatus was rigged, and tho vessel came on to Wellington. OAMAEU, May 14. Oamarn Waterworks. The waterworks are expected to be completed in three months, and the borough engineer has in consequence tendered his resignation. Harbour BoardAt the meeting of the Harbor Board today nothing definite was done in regard to wharfage and dredging. Operations will have to stand in abeyance till a decision is come to. DUNEDIN, May 14. Native Industries CommissionThe Eoyal Commission on Local Industries arrived last night, and will commence business to-morrow. Yet Another! There are rumors of the sudden disappearance of another well-known citizen, but nothing definite is yet generally known.
