CANTERBURY ROWING CLUE.
A special general meeting of the above club was held at Cookson’g Commercial Hotel last evening at eight o’clock. There was a good attendance of members, Mr J. O. Jones (captain) in the chair. The Chairman eaid that the object of the meeting was to consider the advisability of ordering a new pair-oar racing boat, with all the latest improvements. The financial position of the club was such ae to wasrant their doing so, and they would thus be enabled to hold their own against the boats being imported by other clubs. The following resolution was carried unanimously—- “ That the committee bo authorised to order a new pair-oar racing boat, with all tho latest improvements, from Messrs Swadlo and Winchop, of Newcastle on-Tyne.” The Chairman said there was ono other mat ter he wished to bring under their notice. Tho club’s numerical strength, he was glad to say, was fully maintained, yet he thought it would be wise if they endeavored to influence their boating friends to join the club during the recess, so that by the next general meeting in September the 0.R.0. would be to the fore in that respect. The usual vote of thanka to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
