CITY COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Council was held at 7 p.m. yesterday. Present— His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Gapes, Bishop, Ayer*, Lambert, England, Cherrill. The Mayor said that this was a special meeting called to consider the financial statement and report of the auditors for the year, under the Municipal Corporations Act. They would also have to consider the building by-law, tho Drainage Bill, and a letter from the Thames Council. Cr. Gapes moved—“ That tho statement of borough accounts for the year ended 31st March, 1880, be received by this Council as correct, and that his Worship the Mayor be requested to sign the same. Or. Ayers seconded the motion, which was carried. Apologies for non-attendancs were received from Crs. King, Hclbert, and Taylor. Cr. Lambert called attention to the fact that there was not a quorum present, Or. Gapss having left the chamber. The Mayor said that his notice having been called to the fact, the meeting must lapse. It was resolved, after some discussion, that the Council should consider tho subjects mentioned by the Mayor at a meeting to bo hold on Monday next, at S p.m.
