On April 21st, at twenty minutes to one in the morning, a fire broke out next the Theatre Royal, Melbourne, on the premises occupied, by Mrs Sutton, a milliner and dressmaker. The damage done amounted to between £2OO and £3OO. Mr Cuthbert has signified his approval of the mutual agreement between Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne, respecting a reduction of intercolonial press messages from 8s fid to 3s per 100 words. i NEW SOUTH WALES. A notification by the Governor of New South Wales cancels the reward offered for the capture of the Kellys at the end of three months, but continues the pension for the wives and children of the men killed or injured in attempting the capture of the bushrangers, A letter has been received confirming the cable news that the late Mr Chalis left a will ■ bequeathing £IOO,OOO to the University of Sydney. Two lives will intervene before the sum will be available, viz., that of Mrs Chalis l and Mr Chalis’ sister. ; . SOUTH AUSTRALIA • The sentence of life imprisonment passed. on John Dibriey for the manslaughter of his , wife in December, 1876, has been remitted, on the ground that well-founded jealousy instigated the crime.
