Alexander Lyell, a seaman, was charged with deserting from the ship Fleur de Lis. Captain Gordon gave evidence, as did also the chief officer. The same defendant was also charged with assaulting the chief officer. Constable Kenny testified that in his presence the accused struck the mate, and afterwards went into the forecastle, bringing out an open razor, with which he made a rush at the mate.
