A THEATRICAL INNOVATION.
On January the 31st, the reconstructed Haymarket Theatre wss opened under the management of Mr and Mrs Bancroft. The audienca was largely comp.sed of representatives of literature ad of the fine arts. For luxury and lavish decoration the new interior of the building has cever be«=n equalled in London. The enormous expenditure which has bt>en incurred ha» nec-esfitated a tariff off charge* which will be prohibitive to multitudes of playg ers To make way for an increased provision of stalls and balcony seats tha pit has been altogether abolished. This is a bold innovation, and on the opening night it was tumultuously resetted. For half an hour after the curtain rose there was an angry uproar from, the crowd of people banished from the pit to the gallery, or "second circle," which was only appeased at last by the persevering good humour and frank explanations of Mr Bancroft. The disconcerted performers then went through with the play of "Money," but without kindling muchent.hu'ioom.
