HOPE OF CHRISTCHURCH LODGE, No. 8,J.0.G.T.
Thia Lodge held a highly suoceesiul meeting last evening in the Templar Hall, Worcester street, Bro. F. E. Buckland in the chair. One candidate was admitted by card, one was reobligated, and three i.ew member* were initiated. Bro. O. M. Gray was elected to act as reporter for the lodge. The Lodge Deputy, Bro. t-'herlock, announced that his Excellency tho Governor had authorised "the promotion of total abstinence from all intoxicating drinks " as a purp.se to which the powers and facili ies of the Friendly Societies Act ought to be extended, and that therefore the subordinate lodges being included in the above des gnation, will be enabled to register as " specially authorised B-.cietiee, within the meaning of section 7, subsectinn 5, of the Act. The Lodge, on the conclusion of a short recess, resolved itself into hirinony, when some capital song? and recitatim s were rendered by Bros. Davidson, S nith, Ness, M'Allister, and Y.ung, and Sine •* Davis and Barnard. The W.O.T. intimated that the quarterly election of office.'s «rouli take place next lodge night.
