Civil SittingsIn Mackenzie v South, a rule for a new trial was made absolute with costs. Notice of appeal waß given. In Larnach and others v McEenzie a rule absolute was made with costs. Criminal SessionsThe minor charges against Butler are to be taken to morrow. With regard to Mitton'a case, after the Act of the Incorporation of the Athor.a.'um had been considered, Judge Johnston said that as there was no beneficial interest to any person, he did not know why he was brought down to try the case. Mr Haggitt replied that ho had urged that view before, but that Judge Williams thought otherwise. INVERGARGILL, April 21. Fraudulent BankruptThomas Flynn, a bootmaker at Gore, filed his schedule for £6O, and was afterwards discovered to have withdrawn £9O from the bank. Being taxed with this, he gave up £B6. The bankrupt was brought up before the District Court and remanded for eight days. The Judge intended that the creditors Bhould receive the amount due to them in full and the balance should go towards the expense of prosecution.
TIMARU, April 21. Emigration to the Cape. It is announced by advertisement that, if sufficient inducement offers, a first class vessel will leave Timaru for Capetown direct at the end of the month. Within two days over twenty passages have been applied for, chiefly by well-to-do working men. The Memorial re SimsonSurprise and dissatisfaction is generally expressed at the delay that has taken place in dealing with the memorial praying for the reloaso of the bankrupt, Simson, on the ground that Judge Ward should have accepted tho verdict twice returned by the jury as a verdict of acquittal. The memorial which was numerously and influentially s'gned, wa3 despatched to His Excellency about six weeks ago, and the feeling is prevalent that Simeon, who has now completed half his sentence, has been wrongly imprisoned. Chase After a Seal. A seal sft. long was seen sporting about in the water at the end of the breakwater this morning. Saveral boats were manned and went in pursuit, but the stranger escaped. News has been received here that the prospectus of the Waikato Land Association w«b issued before the departure of the mail. The proposal is to Bettle Piako lands, and tho capitul is £6OO OCD, in £2O shares. The directors includo Mr Thomas Russell, 'ir James Eergueson, and Mr Mundella. Ninety thousand acres are to be sold for £300,000. and half the capital is to be absorbed in the first purchase of the land. The Piako estate will be divided into manageable farms. It is expected that the scheme will bring half a million of money into Auckland. GRAHAMSTOWN, April 20. Mr OliverThe Hon. B. Oliver arrives from the Upper Thames this afternoon, and leaves by tho steamer to-night for Auckland. He goes South by the Penguin to-morrow. WELLINGTON, April 20. A man named Flynn was arrested to-day for fraudulent bankruptcy, havirg, it is alleged, concealed somo £9O odd from his creditors.
