KAIAPOI FARMERS' CLUB.
A special meeting of members was held at the Club Chamber on Friday evening, Mr Pashby, chairman, presiding. Mr 11. Coup, lion, secretary, read a statement of accounts connected with the foal, grain, and root show, which was received and adopted. It was resolved that the prizes be paid in accordance with resolution of the club. "Votes of thanks were unanimously passed to the donors of private prizes, and to the judges at the show. A letter was read from the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, in reference to a conference for the suppression of the small birds nuisance. Some surprise was expressed that the association, after its last reply to the club on the subject, should have taken the matter up. It' was, however, agreed that the chairman and secretary attend as delegates at the proposed conference. Members present expressed an opinion that the Government might assist tho conference by granting a bonus for the suppression of the nuisance, or by bringing in an Act allowing a majority of ratepayers in each district who might adopt its provisions to levy a rate not exceeding one penny per acre, to be applied in the destruction of sparrows and linnets. The club then adjourned.
